#16YearsOfClassicDevdas: Twitter showers love on the Sanjay Leela Bhansali – Shah Rukh Khan masterpiece that still leaves us awestruck

No one in Bollywood plays the role of an impassioned lover as well as Shah Rukh Khan. We are sure that every 90’s kid and even many from the current generation would agree on that. Well, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas completes 16 years today and fans have taken to social media to commemorate the landmark film. Devdas was a special film for so many reasons. We cannot get over the iconic songs like Dola Re, Silsila and Maar Dala and the wonderful performances from the entire cast whether it was SRK, Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan or Jackie Shroff as Chunnilal. I remember the film gave me goosebumps throughout in the theatre. Scenes like the one where he sets the room on fire, his condescending attitude towards Chandramukhi and the pathos towards the end are unforgettable till date. Of course, we had the grandeur of Sanjay Leela Bhansali to go with it but for many, it is his most emotionally charged film. The song Morey Piyaa is a lesson on how music and presentation can be used beautifully to showcase sensuality on celluloid. The rage of Devdas is fresh till date as we see its dance sequences being copied in TV shows and the cult D se dil bhi hota aur D se dard bhi hota hai. Check out how fans are celebrating the film’s 16th anniversary with tweets and trivia around it.

When we see the craze around the film, we feel that Sanjay Leela Bhansali and SRK should join hands for another film at the earliest. In between, there was talk that they may do the biopic on Sahir Ludhianvi but then the buzz fizzled out. It is the perfect role for SRK as he has the depth, intelligence and passion, which one would associate with the legendary poet. With fans celebrating every anniversary of Devdas, we want to see the magic being recreated once again!
