Akshay Kumar’s Toilet: Ek Prem enjoys a decent opening week at the Chinese box office



Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha enjoyed a decent opening week in the Chinese market. The comedy-satirical film which was released as Toilet Hero there performed well in the weekend but witnessed a drastic dip in the weekdays. It earned Rs 91.39 crore in its first week and is expected to cross Rs 100 crore mark by its second weekend at the ticket windows.

Earlier, looking at the content, we were not sure whether it will be accepted by the Chinese people or not but by looking at the collections, it seems Toilet Hero has found its relevance among the masses. Akshay’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was reportedly inspired by the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A love story with a satirical flavour, the movie is directed by Shree Narayan Singh, and produced by Aruna Bhatia, Plan C Studios and Abundantia, and presented by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and KriArj Entertainment. Apart from being a commercial success, the film also garnered accolades and awards. Toilet Hero was released in over 4,300 screens across China, reflecting a 50 per cent higher screen count compared to its original release in India. Before its release, lead actor Akshay Kumar expressed his happiness of film entering the Chinese market and said, “I am delighted our film is continuing to break new grounds. Our issues and cultures bear a lot of similarity and I hope ‘Toilet Hero’ gets the same appreciation and love in China.” Anyway, do you think it will enter the Rs 200 crore club in China?
